My eldest
and late brother was a New Zealand military policeman in Vietnam for two six
month tours. While mainly based in Saigon,in what they now call Ho Chi Min City,
he used to patrol out in the countryside. The Viet Cong never touched a jeep
with the black Kiwi bird emblem. But he contracted something there, probably the
effects of Agent Orange spray too. He died of a massive heart attack at Burnham
Military Camp in 1970, at the age of 33 years. He had a full military funeral,
his coffin on a gun carriage paraded through the streets of Christchurch to the
Returned Servicemen's Lawn Cemetery at Bromley. He had also served in Malaya for
two years. RIP Sergeant V.C Petterson. We remember you!
