The Baptist church cut down a 150 year old Pohutakawa tree in Taita in 2010, because they OWNED IT...

Peter Petterson The local Baptist Church in Taita cut this iconic Pohutakawa tree down shortly before the 2010 local body elections. They had the right to because they owned the tree. Owned a 150 year old tree? The land is still bare because they never got the permission to extend the church there. It didn't matter that the local Taita community opposed it.
